Deer Home Learning

To help your child at home, you are asked to complete home learning each week:

  • Reading at least three times a week and recording this on your Boom Reader account. You have access to the online library for Little Wandle as well as both the phonics and library books that your child will change weekly. Reading books are changed once a week in order to build confidence with the text and develop fluency. Please contact us if you would like any further support.
  • Rehearsing the phonics sounds on the flashcards your child comes home with (note that this is not applicable to all children)
  • Rehearsing spellings (this happens when the children are ready) – please keep the file in your child’s book bag, we will give them a new sheet each Monday and you will be able to see their scores in the weekly spelling test as soon as they are ready to learn spellings.

A fantastic tool to help support your child with Maths is White Rose Maths' 1-minute maths app: https://whiteroseeducation.com/1-minute-maths#download

Aimed at Key Stage 1 pupils, it has individual one-minute tasks focus on adding and subtracting – and on ‘Subitising’, the skill of instantly recognising the number of items in a group without counting. Children can choose any topic they want to try. They then answer a unique series of questions (so it’s a different set of questions every time). If they’re struggling with a question, a ‘Hint’ button will give a helpful clue by showing the question in a different but familiar way.

When the one minute’s up, they’ll see a feedback screen telling them how they’ve done.

Here you can also download some maths workbooks to practise at home!

Take a look at the RKE sheets below - these relate to our current learning in school.  Your child should already know the R (Remember) section as this relates to previous learning that they have completed.  The K (Know) section focusses on the learning that they will do within this unit of work.  The E (Explore) section has some ideas that you could do or discuss at home to support learning.  If your child is finding it hard to recall their prior learning, you might be asked to support this at home to help them be ready for the new learning that they are about to complete.
