Fernhurst Primary School

PE and Sports Premium

At Fernhurst Primary School, we believe that physical education should be an essential part of every child’s school experiences, and we promote daily physical well-being for every learner.

Physical education develop’s the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing skill and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, games, gymnastics, athletics and outdoor activities.

Physical education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action and the skills of cooperation, teamwork and respect. It promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle for their future.

We are fortunate to have, in our school grounds, an excellent environment for outdoor physical education, and we offer a range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities to inspire all of our children to participate fully and to achieve a minimum of 30 minutes of daily exercise.

We welcome the government’s commitment to sport in primary schools through the School Sport Premium. This funding is given to schools to promote physical exercise and well-being for children.

Below you will see how we are spending our sports premium to meet the needs of the children.

Results:

82% of pupils in Y6 2023 are able to swim at least 25m and 95% in 2022.  In 2023-24, Years 3, 4 and 5 will experience swimming lessons and we will support children in years 6 to continue with their learning to help all children leave primary school able to swim 25m+.  This is so that we can start to support the teaching of swimming earlier and can do more to further increase the number of pupils leaving Y6 swimming at least 25m+.
